Phew! I'll go ahead and insert the obligatory apology for not having blogged in way too long. SO much has been going on. Trust me, there have been nights where I've had the time. I just haven't had the brain power to put together something worthy of your time. One night, I actually considered telling all of you about my (ahem) "issues" with regularity and pregnancy. Like, in detail. If you've ever been pregnant, known a pregnant person, or read anything about pregnancy, you probably know what I'm referring to. Let me put it this way. You're welcome for only informing you of Sofia's poop habits, and not my own. Moving right along.
You may have noticed the new look. This was my focus of the blog for a few weeks. I'd love to hear your input, but I can assure you that this look will not be the final look. I am so proud of myself for being 30+ and continuing to learn techie stuff. I've still got some learning to do, so the look will be changing periodically until I'm 100% happy with the finished product. In case you can't tell, I'm really trying to convince myself here that I'm capable of being 100% satisfied with anything, especially something dealing with aesthetics.
We got a new car! YES! YES! YES! Here's a little car history, for those of you just dying to know. I drive a reasonable (albeit old ladyish) '05 sedan. It's done me well and has all the bells and whistles that an '05 sedan can provide. Let's talk about Josh's car. When I met him, and he was "courting" me, he drove a bright blue Mustang. I'm being nice when I say I'VE ALWAYS HATED THIS CAR. I almost didn't date him, just because of the car he drove. (No, I'm not that superficial. My dad was a Chevy guy, so Ford alone was questionable, then there was the flashy model and color, which I felt said something about his personality. Plus, it was always very, very messy.) He loved that car; Sally. (By the way, we're car- naming people). He worked so hard to pay for that car, and paid it off after we got married. Then, it seemed like a no- brainer to keep it because we wouldn't have a car payment. Then we had a baby. There are few cars I would consider less baby friendly. Sofia has never been in that car. It had a manual transmission, so I couldn't drive it, blah, blah, blah... All of these things, plus an endless laundry list of mechanical issues, made this car unbearable, to say the least. Well, my prayers were answered when Josh called the other day and said something went wrong yet again, and he wanted to go car shopping. We'd been car shopping a few times in the past, but never pulled the trigger, so I didn't get my hopes too high this time. But, that day, we drove away in a new (to us) car! It's not brand new. But it was a great buy and met all of our criteria. We are both waaaaay too frugal and practical to break the bank on a new new car, and we found a great compromise. AND, I get to drive it, and Josh took my granny mobile! It was so tough for Josh to say good bye to Sally, like it's the end of an era. But I think we're all much happier with the new situation.
Also, I've been working on this other "wish list" post. In the next two months, we will be celebrating my birthday, Mother's Day, and our anniversary (among other birthdays and holidays). I've been secretly composing a wish list to help some friends and family with some gift ideas. I've seen some similar ideas on other blogs. I know it sounds vain, but I ALWAYS struggle for an answer when people ask me what I want for said holidays, so I thought I'd be proactive this time. Plus, it's fun to browse online. And, if any of my readers knew of any deals on any of the items, I thought they could let me know. I love to give credit to good products and businesses, so there you have it. I still may do it... not sure.
And, if you're still reading this (thank you), then you get to hear the newest item. I got a new job! I started this week, and so far, I LOVE it! I'm not going to name the company here (it was the Skype interview!), but I'll give you the gist of the job. I'm a private contractor for a marketing/ PR firm located in Louisville. I've been hired to represent one of their clients, a restaurant chain. The restaurant is pretty popular, but struggling just a bit in this area. They're launching a new catering initiative and that is my focus. My title is Field Marketer/ Catering Specialist. My office is at home, I make my own hours, it's salary plus commission, and I get to do things like participate in bridal shows, local festivals, fundraisers, community events, school/ team events, and general fundraising/ catering opportunities. Basically, if I could've written down some characteristics for my ideal job at this juncture of my life, the above list would've been it!
In other news, I just entered my second trimester, and feel great. I'm going to admit, that there are several times a day when I simply forget that I'm pregnant. Sofia, plus all of these other things, along with life in general (family, laundry, grocery shopping, etc...) have kept me so busy. I mean, I remember to take my vitamins every day, and take good care of myself, but I'm not waddling around huffing and puffing. I'll be 15 weeks tomorrow and I've gained 3 lbs., which I'm very happy with. We find out in 10 days what the sex is. It seems so soon! I think Sofia will be an excellent big sister. I think she will be wildly jealous at times. We're working on that. She'll be spending three days a week with Grandma Julie again, now that I'm working. And, we've started researching pre-schools for the other two days. I could get away with having her home with me for those two days, but I think that it's the best thing for all of us, at this point, to have her start the "school" routine. It's the first time I've felt excitement rather than anxiety at the thought of her going to a facility for day care a few days a week. This is a good sign, people.
Also, we decided that we WILL be going on vacation this year. We missed last summer because of all the new babies and houses and expenses. I CANNOT wait to see my beautiful baby see the beautiful coast for the first time. Based on her love of puddles and splashing, I think she will be all "Ooooh" and "OOOh cooool!" and (in a movie-like whisper) "Oh WOOOW." Considering a balloon or an airplane elicits these reactions from her, I'm sure the Gulf of Mexico won't disappoint.
So, based on the above, is there any mercy for the non-blogging? Yes? Good. As promised, I'm trying to up my thrifting and sharing of precious finds, but so far, I've only found (an awesome) vintage lazy susan for parties, and I refuse to make that my first blog picture.
Until then, there's this...
